I Didn't Even Know Her Name

THE PYTHON

sometimes
I feel my separateness
is an aching hole
that can never
be filled
a hunger
that can never
be appeased
I a restless predator
set out
in search of sustenance
even when closest
to what seems to be satisfaction
I realize
only
momentary relief
of my emptiness
how I wish
I could
just swallow you whole
and be done with it,
somehow you always
escape me
ah well
even the python
cannot
live a lifetime
on only one meal.
